Troy Henry, High Performance Program Graduate, makes his professional debut!

At the start of the Australian summer in 2023, Troy travelled to Adelaide to enrol on the R66T Academy High Performance Program. Troy’s focus was to improve his bowling under the expert guidance of Joe Root’s former Coach and High Performance Director, shaun Seigert.

Having the experience of being the ex-captain of the ACE team at just 16 years old, Troy proved to be hard-working, keen to learn, and a good leader during the cohort. In March 2024, Troy graduated from the program.

Upon his return to the UK, he earned his first rookie contract with Sussex Cricket in March 2025 and has since recently made his professional debut and taken his first wicket.

During his time in Adelaide, Troy completed two 10-week blocks of the intensive training programme where he focused on improving his spin bowling and batting, "The program has developed me not only as a player, but as a person, getting out of my comfort zone by living with new people, exploring a different country, and embracing a different culture. On the playing side, I improved both mentally and physically as we got pushed to our limits and this made us reach our full potential, which was a good challenge for us!"

High Performance Program Director Shaun Seigert said, "Troy demonstrated exceptional dedication and effort within the Root Academy's High Performance Program in Adelaide, developing his skills significantly as both a left-arm spinner and a middle-order batsman.” Upon his return to the UK in March 2024, Troy competed in the try-outs for Sussex Cricket, which were successful as he signed his first rookie contract. To now see him taking his first First Class wicket for Sussex, hopefully, is just the start."

To follow in the footsteps of Joe Root and Troy Henry, places are still available to join the 2025/26 cohort for the High Performance Program. To find out more information and how to register, click here.
