Founded in 2018, the R66T Academy was created with a simple but powerful mission: to provide opportunities for people around the world to play, enjoy and stay involved in cricket. By making the game fun, inclusive and engaging, we aim to increase participation and long-term retention. The vision is delivered through innovative coaching drills, impactful coach education and cutting-edge training products.
Established by Matt, Billy, and Joe Root, the message remains as clear today as it was eight years ago: to provide opportunities for cricketers of any gender, race, ability, or location to play and enjoy the game. Guided by these principles, we strive to help players embrace every aspect of cricket—developing a healthy competitive spirit, expressing their natural talents, understanding that team success outweighs individual performance, and learning to appreciate excellence in others.
Over the past eight years, the R66T Academy has continued to expand opportunities for players across the globe. From international experiences at our annual R66T Dubai Cup, to our UK-based Festival of Cricket, and elite development through our High Performance Programme in Adelaide, Australia, we are proud to support cricketers at every stage of their journey. Our camps are led by experienced, hand-picked coaches, including High Performance Director Shaun Seigert, former coach of Joe Root, enabling players to unlock their full potential.
Alongside this, the growth of the Root Foundation has been one of our proudest achievements. Over the last eight years, it has flourished to provide free cricketing opportunities for state school players across the country. This comes with a huge thank you to our supporters, who allow for such amazing, new openings for younger players with their generous donations towards something so special to us.
Innovation has always been central to the R66T Academy. Our coaching aids, developed by Billy and Joe Root, have evolved significantly. The bowling machines are used by players and coaches worldwide, making high-quality practice accessible anywhere.
In mid-2025, our most popular bowling machine returned with exciting new upgrades, including coloured ball markings to improve visual skills and a phone holder to help players and coaches record, review and refine techniques.

We’ve recently launched our online membership platform, open to any cricketer, coach, teacher or parent. The platform allows members to connect with like-minded individuals, receive expert feedback by uploading their content, and access exclusive masterclass footage from international players and coaches. Our advancements within the R66T Academy don’t stop there, as we also support aspiring and experienced coaches alike, offering globally recognised qualifications through an easy-to-use learning system. Current courses include the R66T To Coaching Course and the QUALIFI Level 3 Diploma in the Principles of Cricket Coaching, helping coaches take the next step in their development.
